Faithful Men

No, this is not a post for the a Capella group “faithful men,” a quartet of six people including 2 women. This is a reminder to men in leadership in their church to bring other men on the journey with them. In 2 Timothy 2:2 Paul tells Timothy to entrust what Paul has taught him to “faithful men” who will teach others also.  basically, the way the gospel will be preserved through generations will be through intentional relationships between generations. I think Paul is getting at the reality of disciple making being in the context of a personal relationship not in a seminar. This is further confirmed in Paul’s letter to Titus as he urges older men and women to raise up the next generation in the faith.

So here I am, at 28, trying to figure out what this means for me. Well, it means if possible I need to have older men entrusting the gospel and leadership of the church to me as a pastor. Thankfully I have that right now. It definitely means I need to be investing into younger men. So I consider one of my most important roles here at the Summit to be overseeing the development of other future pastor/elders in the faith. There are 5 guys right now in seminary who I am overseeing in some ministry capacity here at the Summit. I love this. Not for what they will give back to the Summit. Most likely none of them will be here in 3 years. I love it because hopefully what they learn while they serve God’s people here will be a building block for their next 40 years of ministry. And this gets me amped. That I can be a part of the gospel passing to the next generation! So to you men and women in church leadership, who are you taking with you?
