Mourning with hope

A week ago today my wife and I lost our child to a miscarriage. I’ve been back and forth over whether to share such personal news here on the blog. But, since we announced our pregnancy here I thought it prudent to relay this sad news as well. We remain saddened at the loss of this little one. At the same time, we cling to the hope afforded us in the gospel. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 4.13-14

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”

Courtney and I are resting in this hope. Our theology is guiding our mourning. Thus far God has spared us from the feeling of bitterness while we grieve and we are grateful for that. Thank you to so many who have cared for us via prayer and other encouragement. We told our small group tonight that though I preach “life together” all the time as a small groups pastor, it has again been confirmed as God’s grace through how our group has loved on us this past week. I love my small group!
